Mount Teghenis
Mount Teghenis is a 2,851-metre peak in Kotayk Province, rising directly above the resort town of Tsaghkadzor. Its slopes are home to the Tsaghkadzor ski area and ropeway, making the mountain one of the easiest high-altitude landscapes to experience during a trip from Yerevan.
You do not need to plan a full mountain hike to enjoy Teghenis. Most visitors experience the mountain from Tsaghkadzor, using the ropeway to reach the higher slopes for panoramic views, skiing in winter or simply spending time in the cooler mountain air during the warmer months.

Where is Mount Teghenis?
Mount Teghenis rises above Tsaghkadzor, one of Armenia’s most popular mountain resorts. The town lies on the southeastern slope of the mountain and is the main starting point for visitors who want to see Teghenis without organising a separate hiking expedition.
The lower slopes are partly forested, while the landscape becomes more open as the elevation increases. Higher up, the views expand across Tsaghkadzor and the surrounding mountains of central Armenia.
Tsaghkadzor Ropeway on Mount Teghenis
The easiest way for most travellers to experience Mount Teghenis is the Tsaghkadzor Ropeway. The chairlifts climb the mountain slopes above the town and provide access to panoramic viewpoints as well as the ski area.
The ropeway is not only a winter attraction. Outside the ski season, visitors can also ride up the mountain for the scenery and cooler temperatures. Operation can depend on weather and maintenance, so it is worth checking the schedule before travelling specifically for the lift.
A ropeway ride should not be confused with a full ascent to the summit. Visitors who want to reach the actual top of Mount Teghenis on foot should treat it as a mountain hike and prepare according to the weather and trail conditions.
Best Time to Visit Mount Teghenis
Winter is the main season for skiing and snowboarding on the slopes of Teghenis. Snow-covered mountains and the ski lifts make this one of the most popular winter destinations within easy reach of Yerevan.
Late spring, summer and early autumn offer a very different experience. The slopes become green, visibility is often better for sightseeing, and the mountain is suitable for scenic ropeway rides and walks. Even in summer, temperatures at higher elevations can be noticeably cooler and windier than in Tsaghkadzor.
What to See Near Mount Teghenis
A visit to Teghenis is easy to combine with time in Tsaghkadzor. One of the main historical sights is Kecharis Monastery, a medieval Armenian monastic complex located close to the centre of the resort.
For a first visit, the combination of Tsaghkadzor, Kecharis Monastery, the ropeway and Mount Teghenis is already enough for a relaxed mountain day without adding a long list of distant attractions.
How to Get to Mount Teghenis from Yerevan
The most practical route from Yerevan is to travel first to Tsaghkadzor. The resort is around 55–60 km from the capital, and the road continues through the town towards the ropeway and ski area on the slopes of Teghenis.
Travellers who prefer a direct journey can book a Yerevan to Tsaghkadzor transfer with pickup from a hotel, apartment or another address in Yerevan. This is particularly convenient in winter when travelling with ski equipment, luggage or children.
