What to See Around Lake Sevan

The shores of Lake Sevan combine medieval monasteries, protected landscapes, viewpoints and hiking routes. The guides below cover the main places to visit around the lake, with practical information about access, seasonality and planning.

How to Plan a Sevan Route

For a short trip from Yerevan, Lake Sevan and Sevanavank Monastery are the easiest places to combine, with time for a walk along the shore and panoramic views from the peninsula.

With a full day, you can continue along the western shore toward Hayravank Monastery and other historic sites in Gegharkunik Province.

For a more active trip, Mount Artanish is better planned separately. The hike takes several hours and works best as the main activity of the day rather than an additional stop on a packed sightseeing itinerary.

Best Time to Visit

For sightseeing and walks, the most comfortable period is from May to October. Swimming is usually best in July and August, when the water reaches its warmest temperatures.

Even in summer, Lake Sevan is often cooler and windier than Yerevan, so a light jacket is useful throughout the season.

How to Get There from Yerevan

The town of Sevan and Sevanavank Peninsula are about 65 km from Yerevan, roughly one hour by car. Other attractions are spread farther along the shoreline, so for a multi-stop route it is useful to decide in advance which part of the lake you want to explore.
