Where to stay in Yerevan depends on the length of your trip, your budget and how you plan to spend your time. For a first visit, Kentron is usually the most convenient choice. This central district includes Republic Square, the Opera, the Cascade, Northern Avenue, museums and many of the city’s restaurants.
If you prefer a quieter, more residential atmosphere, consider Arabkir. You will need to use the metro, a bus or a taxi to reach some central sights, but it is often easier to find a peaceful apartment away from the busiest streets.

Republic Square, the Opera, the Cascade and Saryan Street are all in Kentron. They are not separate administrative districts, but different parts of the large city center, each with a slightly different atmosphere.
Kentron — Where to Stay in Yerevan for a First Visit
Kentron suits most travelers visiting Yerevan for a few days. Many of the main attractions are within walking distance, and the area has cafés, restaurants, exchange offices, shops and metro stations.
The main disadvantage is the higher cost of accommodation. Some hotel rooms and apartments also face busy roads, restaurants or outdoor terraces. Before booking, read recent comments specifically about street noise and soundproofing, not only reviews of the service.
Republic Square and Northern Avenue
This is the easiest location for a first trip. The History Museum of Armenia, National Gallery, Vernissage Market, Abovyan Street and pedestrian Northern Avenue are all nearby. You can explore much of central Yerevan on foot, and tour vehicles can normally collect you directly from your hotel.
The area is especially practical if you have only 2–3 days in the city. Its disadvantages are heavier traffic, more visitors and higher prices than in residential neighborhoods.
Opera and Cascade
The streets around the Opera, Freedom Square and the lower Cascade are popular for their cafés, evening atmosphere and pleasant walks. From here, you can easily reach the Matenadaran, Baghramyan Avenue, Tumanyan Street and the rest of the center.
Check the exact position of the building on a map before booking. Yerevan is built on hills, and some streets above the Cascade have a noticeable incline. This matters for families with young children, older travelers and anyone carrying heavy luggage.
Saryan Street and Mashtots Avenue
Saryan Street is known for wine bars and restaurants, while Mashtots Avenue is convenient for walking to the market, the Blue Mosque, the Opera and the Cascade. This part of Kentron suits visitors who want to spend their evenings in the center and walk back to their hotel.

Arabkir — Quieter and Farther from the Tourist Center
Arabkir is a large residential district north of Kentron. It has fewer tour groups and more neighborhood shops, cafés and apartment buildings. It works well for longer stays, family trips and travelers who do not plan to spend every evening in central Yerevan.
When choosing accommodation in Arabkir, check the exact point on the map rather than relying only on the district name. The most convenient options are near Barekamutyun metro station, Komitas Avenue or a useful bus route. From more distant parts of Arabkir, you will use taxis more often.
Arabkir is not the best replacement for the center if you have only two days in Yerevan. For a trip of a week or longer, however, a quieter setting may be more valuable than walking distance to Republic Square.
Where to Stay in Yerevan with Children
For families, the features of the building matter more than the prestige of the neighborhood. Check for an elevator, air conditioning in summer, reliable heating in winter, a quiet courtyard and vehicle access to the entrance.
With young children, a quiet side street in central Kentron or accommodation in Arabkir near public transport can work well. A room above a bar, a steep uphill walk or an apartment in a building without an elevator may be inconvenient even if the location looks excellent on the map.

Should You Stay Near Yerevan Airport?
Zvartnots International Airport is outside central Yerevan. Staying nearby makes sense only for a short connection, a very early departure or a late arrival followed by an onward journey outside the city.
For a normal visit, it is more convenient to travel directly to the center. The drive usually takes about 20–30 minutes without heavy traffic. A pre-booked Yerevan airport transfer can take you directly to your hotel or apartment.
Hotel or Apartment in Yerevan?
A hotel is usually more convenient for a short trip. A reception desk, luggage storage, housekeeping and the possibility of a late check-in make the first days in an unfamiliar city easier.
An apartment can be better for families and longer stays. It usually provides more space, a kitchen and a washing machine. Before booking, confirm the key collection time, elevator access, payment method and how to contact the host if you arrive at night.

- parking availability if you are traveling by car.
