Armenia Visa Requirements
Armenia has straightforward entry rules for most international visitors. Citizens of many countries can travel without a visa and stay for up to 180 days within one year. Other travellers may need an e‑Visa or a visa issued through an Armenian embassy or consulate.
This guide covers the main Armenia visa requirements, permitted length of stay, passport rules and the documents you may need when travelling by air or overland.
Entry requirements can change. Before departure, confirm the current rules for your passport with an Armenian diplomatic mission or your airline.
Do You Need a Visa for Armenia?
Whether you need a visa depends on your nationality and the passport you use.
Citizens of EU countries, the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia, Japan, New Zealand, South Korea, Russia, Georgia and many other countries can normally enter Armenia without a visa. For most visa-free visitors, the maximum stay is 180 days within one year.
Travellers who are not covered by a visa-free agreement may have one of two options:
- apply online for an Armenia e‑Visa;
- obtain a visa through an Armenian embassy or consulate.
Some nationalities require an approved invitation before a consular visa can be issued. Eligibility should always be checked before purchasing non-refundable tickets.
Temporary Visa Exemption for Residence-Permit Holders
A temporary visa exemption operates from 1 July 2026 until 1 July 2027 for citizens of 111 eligible countries who hold a qualifying residence permit issued by:
- the United States;
- an EU or Schengen country;
- the United Arab Emirates;
- Bahrain, Qatar or Saudi Arabia;
- Kuwait or Oman.
The residence permit must normally be presented as an original physical card or as a valid residence sticker in the passport. It must remain valid for at least six months from the date of entry.
Eligible travellers may stay in Armenia for up to 180 days within one year. The exemption does not apply automatically to every residence-permit holder: both the passport nationality and the residence document must meet the requirements.
Armenia e‑Visa: Cost and Length of Stay
Eligible travellers can apply for a visitor visa online before travelling. The application is completed electronically, and the approved e‑Visa should be printed and carried with the passport.

The application fee is non-refundable. Processing times can vary, especially if additional documents are requested, so it is best to apply well before departure.
Do not assume that a visa on arrival will be available. Travel only after receiving confirmation that your visa or e‑Visa has been approved.
Passport and Entry Documents
Your passport or recognised travel document should remain valid for the entire visit. Visa applicants, transit passengers and travellers visiting another country during the same journey may face additional passport-validity requirements.
When travelling to Armenia, keep the following documents available:
- a valid passport or accepted travel document;
- a printed e‑Visa or consular visa, if required;
- the address and contact details of your accommodation;
- a return or onward ticket;
- travel insurance and proof of sufficient funds if requested;
- documents confirming the purpose of a work, study or family visit.
Children follow the same visa rules as adults of the same nationality. Each child should have an accepted travel document. When travelling with only one parent or another accompanying adult, parental consent and a birth certificate may also be required.
Length of Stay, Work and Longer Visits
For most visa-free visitors, the permitted stay is up to 180 days within one year. The days are cumulative: leaving Armenia briefly and returning does not automatically create a new 180-day allowance.
Visa-free entry allows you to visit Armenia but does not automatically give you the right to work or establish permanent residence. Employment may require employer-sponsored authorisation and residence status.
Travellers planning to work, study, join family members or remain in Armenia beyond the permitted period should arrange the appropriate residence status before their legal stay expires.
Entering Armenia Through Georgia
Travellers entering Armenia overland through Georgia must meet the entry requirements of both countries. Use a passport accepted for the entire route and check Georgia’s current transit and travel-insurance rules before departure.
When travelling by car, carry the vehicle registration document, driving licence, insurance and written authorisation from the owner or rental company when required. Allow additional time for immigration and customs checks at both borders.
