How to Plan a Tatev Trip
If you travel from Yerevan for one day, Tatev Monastery and the Wings of Tatev cableway are usually the main focus. It is a long day trip, so an early departure is recommended.
A more comfortable option is to spend one night in Goris. On the first day, you can travel south through Areni and Noravank and spend the evening in Goris. On the second day, visit Tatev and Khndzoresk before returning to Yerevan.
Goris is a convenient base for the region: Khndzoresk is only a short drive away, while Tatev lies farther south across the mountain landscape of Syunik.
Best Time to Visit
The most convenient season for visiting Tatev and the surrounding region is from spring to mid-autumn. Summers are generally warm, although it can be windy around Tatev and above the Vorotan Gorge.
Winter trips are possible, but mountain roads and changing weather conditions require more time and flexibility.
How to Get There from Yerevan
Tatev and Goris are far from Yerevan, so driving time takes up a significant part of the day. The route passes through Vayots Dzor before continuing south into Syunik.
For a short day trip, you can travel directly toward Tatev. If you also want to explore Goris and Khndzoresk, staying overnight is a much more practical option.
Tatev Day Trip from Yerevan
