Yerevan Zoo
Yerevan Zoo covers 35 hectares in the north-eastern part of the city, on Myasnikyan Avenue. It is home to more than 160 species, including African lions, Amur tigers, an Asian elephant, a hippopotamus, spotted hyenas, Armenian mouflon, primates, birds and reptiles.

Yerevan Zoo Ticket Prices
Since 1 July 2026, the zoo has used a single admission rate for visitors aged 3–69. The price depends on the day of the week and is no longer divided into separate adult and child tickets.

Groups of 11 or more visitors receive a 5% discount on the total ticket price.
Organised groups from schools, kindergartens and child development centres can receive a special rate of 300 AMD per participant. An official letter from the institution containing its name and a list of participants is required.

Yerevan Zoo Opening Hours
According to the zoo’s official opening-hours page, Yerevan Zoo is open daily from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM.
On Mondays, the aquaterrarium opens at 3:00 PM because maintenance and sanitation work is carried out earlier in the day. The rest of the zoo follows the regular schedule.

Animals at Yerevan Zoo
The exact collection changes over time, so the number of individual animals may vary. According to current information, the zoo keeps more than 160 species, including animals listed in the IUCN Red List and the Red Book of Armenia.
Predators and Large Animals
Some of the most popular residents are African lions, Amur tigers and spotted hyenas. The zoo is also home to an Asian elephant and a common hippopotamus.
Large animals have separate enclosures and may not always be close to the viewing areas. Visitors should not expect to see every animal during a single visit.
Armenian Mouflon and Caucasian Wildlife
Particular attention is given to animals native to the Armenian Highlands and the Caucasus. The Armenian mouflon is one of the zoo’s signature species and appears on its logo.
Work with native and endangered animals is an important part of the zoo’s conservation programme. In addition to displaying animals, the zoo is involved in breeding, wildlife protection and environmental education.
Primates, Birds and the Aquaterrarium
The collection includes ring-tailed lemurs, hamadryas baboons, waterbirds and birds of prey. The aquaterrarium houses reptiles, fish and other species kept in indoor enclosures.

Best Time to Visit Yerevan Zoo
Spring and autumn are the most comfortable seasons for exploring the zoo. Temperatures are usually pleasant, and it is easier to walk around the hilly grounds.
During summer, arrive close to opening time or later in the afternoon. Around midday, many animals rest in the shade or move into the sheltered parts of their enclosures.
Allow approximately 2–3 hours for a regular visit. Families with young children who plan to take breaks and visit the aquaterrarium may spend up to half a day here.
Visiting Yerevan Zoo with Children
Yerevan Zoo is one of the most popular family attractions in the city. However, parents should keep several practical details in mind:
- the zoo covers 35 hectares and includes uphill and downhill sections;
- pushchairs can be used, but some slopes may require extra effort;
- bring water, hats and sun protection during summer;
- children should not feed animals with ordinary food, knock on barriers or shout to attract them;
- allow at least 2–3 hours for a relaxed visit.
Playgrounds, food stalls and seasonal attractions may operate according to separate schedules. It is better not to plan the visit entirely around these additional facilities.

By public transport. City buses run along Myasnikyan Avenue. Route numbers can change, so check the latest information in a transport application or online map before travelling.
History of Yerevan Zoo
The decision to establish a zoological park in Yerevan was made in 1940. Construction began in 1941 but was interrupted during the Second World War. The zoo eventually opened to visitors in 1950.
The original territory was much smaller, and the first collection contained only a few dozen animals and birds. The zoo gradually expanded, gained new species and developed into one of Yerevan’s largest green areas.
A major period of modernisation began in the 2010s. Enclosures, walking areas and visitor facilities have been renovated, while further improvements continue throughout the zoo.
What to See Near Yerevan Zoo
Several other family attractions and green areas are located in the same part of Yerevan:
- Water World Yerevan — outdoor and indoor pools, water slides and children’s areas;
- Yerevan Botanical Garden — a large green area with plant collections and a greenhouse;
- Victory Park — the Mother Armenia monument, military museum, city views, lake and amusement rides.
Water World and the zoo can be combined during summer. However, families with young children may find it more comfortable to visit only one large attraction in a day.

Yerevan Zoo in a City Itinerary
It is best to reserve half a day for the zoo. Yerevan Zoo is not normally included in a standard 3–4-hour Yerevan city tour, which focuses on Victory Park, the Cascade, Republic Square and the central streets.
Families can combine the zoo with the Botanical Garden or Water World. If you would like to visit several locations with stops along the way, you can book a car with a driver in Yerevan and agree on the itinerary and waiting time in advance.
