Yerevan 2800th Anniversary Park

Yerevan 2800th Anniversary Park

Yerevan 2800th Anniversary Park is a landscaped public park in the city centre, known for its fountains, bronze sculptures and granite paving inspired by Armenian carpets. It stands beside English Park and the Alexander Myasnikyan monument, approximately a 10-minute walk from Republic Square.

Visit to see the pink quartzite map of Yerevan, walk along the fountains and take a break on one of the benches. We recommend allowing around 30–60 minutes for a first visit. During the warmer months, the evening lighting adds another reason to stop here after dark.

What to See at Yerevan 2800th Anniversary Park

Fountains and Evening Lighting

The park’s main feature is a fountain complex with 2,800 water jets. Pools line the walking area, while a separate water arch adds another element to the design. Daylight makes it easier to examine the details; after dark, coloured lighting changes the appearance of the water.

In 2025, a musical fountain programme featuring Armenian melodies was introduced at the paved area shaped like a map of Yerevan. Performances are intended for summer evenings. Check the current programme before visiting, as ordinary fountain operating hours and musical performance times may differ.

The Pink Quartzite Map of Yerevan

A map made of pink quartzite stands in the central fountain complex, with the names of Yerevan’s 12 administrative districts engraved on its surface.

This is separate from the nearby paved area shaped like the city map. The quartzite map sits within a pool, while the other installation has water jets rising from the paving. Both are worth looking for as you explore the park.

Bronze Sculptures

Seven bronze sculptures stand around the park. The bull and lion draw on imagery from the ancient fortress of Erebuni. The other five sculptures depict children, including a child with a small boat in the composition called Childhood.

The sculptures can be viewed as you follow the fountain area. Together, they connect the park’s design with the city’s ancient history and everyday life in Yerevan.

Armenian Carpet Patterns

The paving uses seven types of granite to recreate geometric motifs from traditional Armenian carpets. These form a long patterned walkway between the fountains.

Visit during daylight to appreciate the stonework and individual patterns. For photographs of the illuminated fountains, return after dark.

A Brief History of the Park

The park opened on 10 May 2019 following reconstruction. It was a gift from Mikael and Karen Vardanyan marking the 2,800th anniversary of Yerevan’s foundation, which explains its alternative name, Vardanyan Park.

The Vardanyan Family Charity Foundation financed the project and undertook responsibility for maintenance for 99 years from 2019. The park remains city property, and commercial activity within its grounds is prohibited.

Best Time to Visit

Choose the warmer months if you want to see the fountains operating. Spring and autumn are generally comfortable for daytime walks. In summer, mornings and evenings are preferable because the open paved areas become hot in direct sunlight.

For illuminated fountain photographs, arrive after dark. If your main interest is the musical programme, check its specific date and starting time separately.

Winter visits focus on the sculptures, city map and patterned walkways rather than the fountains. The fountain season’s opening and closing dates depend on weather and maintenance.

How to Get There

The park lies beside Italy, Beirut, Movses Khorenatsi and Grigor Lusavorich streets. English Park and the Alexander Myasnikyan monument are useful landmarks.

On foot from Republic Square. Walk towards Shahumyan Square and continue to Yerevan 2800th Anniversary Park. Allow approximately 10 minutes, depending on your starting point and street crossings.

By metro. Travel to Republic Square station and walk the remaining distance.

By taxi or car. Enter “Yerevan 2800th Anniversary Park” or “Vardanyan Park” in your navigation or taxi app. If you are already exploring central Yerevan, the park is usually easy to reach on foot.

Visiting with Children

The park suits a short family walk. Children can look at the sculptures, find different districts on the city map and watch the fountains.

Bring a change of clothes if your child is likely to get wet near the water, and take care on wet paving. For a walk with a pushchair, choose the morning or evening to avoid the strongest summer heat.

What to See Nearby

  • Republic Square — the city’s main architectural ensemble, with museums and a separate singing fountain complex.
  • Alexander Myasnikyan monument — beside the southern end of the park, near Grigor Lusavorich Street.

For a short central walking route, start at Republic Square, continue through Shahumyan Square to the anniversary park and finish in English Park.
