The monasteries can be visited throughout the year, although the weather in Lori Province is generally cooler and more changeable than in Yerevan. May to October is usually the most comfortable period for walking. In winter or after heavy rain and snowfall, the itinerary may be adjusted according to road and trail conditions.
Spring
The canyon slopes gradually turn green and the waterfalls become more powerful. Rain, mist and cool weather are still possible in March and April.
Summer
Lori is usually cooler than Yerevan, making the full-day itinerary more comfortable. Bring drinking water, sun protection and a light jacket.
Autumn
The forests of the Debed Canyon turn golden and crimson. September and the first half of October are especially suitable for walking and landscape photography.
Winter
Haghpat and Sanahin can be visited in winter when road conditions permit. Warm clothing and non-slip footwear are essential, while Kobayr may be omitted if the trail is unsafe.
