What You Will See on the Noravank Tour
During this full-day tour, you will visit Khor Virap Monastery with views of Mount Ararat, explore Noravank among dramatic red cliffs, and stop in the wine-making village of Areni. The private format gives you enough time for sightseeing, photographs and rest without a fixed group schedule.
Khor Virap Monastery
A famous monastery at the foot of Mount Ararat and one of Armenia’s best locations for panoramic photographs.
Noravank Monastery
A medieval monastery complex with the two-story Surb Astvatsatsin Church in a canyon of dramatic red cliffs.
Areni — Wine Tasting and Lunch
A stop in the wine-making village of Areni for local wine tasting and an optional lunch.
Best Time to Visit Noravank
The Noravank tour is available throughout the year. In spring, the landscapes of Vayots Dzor Province turn green; in summer, the red cliffs look especially vivid; autumn brings the grape harvest season to Areni; and in winter, the monastery becomes quiet and atmospheric.
Spring
April and May are ideal for a comfortable trip. The landscapes turn green and the weather is usually mild, although rain and cool winds are possible.
Summer
Southern Armenia can be very hot. We recommend an early departure and bringing drinking water, sunglasses and a hat.
Autumn
September and October are among the best months to visit, with mild weather, less heat and the grape harvest season in Areni.
Winter
There are fewer visitors and the monastery has a peaceful atmosphere. The itinerary may be adjusted during snowfall or icy road conditions.
Weather conditions may differ between Khor Virap, Noravank Canyon and Areni. We recommend bringing comfortable footwear, drinking water and clothing suitable for the season, as well as sun protection during summer.
Who Is the Noravank Tour Suitable For?
The private format allows you to choose a convenient departure time, adjust the duration of each stop and travel at a pace that suits your group.
Couples
A scenic journey with views of Mount Ararat, the red cliffs of Noravank and plenty of time for photographs together.
Families with children
The itinerary can be completed at a relaxed pace, with convenient stops for rest, meals and photographs.
Groups of friends
A minivan or minibus can be arranged for families and groups of up to 17 passengers.
History and wine enthusiasts
The route combines ancient monasteries, the landscapes of Vayots Dzor and the wine-making traditions of Areni.
The descent into the Khor Virap dungeon and the climb up the exterior staircase of Surb Astvatsatsin Church at Noravank are optional. These areas may be challenging for young children and visitors with limited mobility, so the itinerary can be adjusted when necessary.
What to Bring on Your Noravank Tour
No special preparation is required, but you should consider the length of the journey, exposed sunny areas and uneven stone surfaces around the monasteries.
Comfortable footwear
There are stairs, slopes and uneven stone surfaces around the monastery grounds.
Drinking water
A small supply of water is especially useful during the long journey and outdoor walks in summer.
Sun protection
During summer, we recommend bringing a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen.
Seasonal clothing
A light jacket or raincoat is useful in spring and autumn. In winter, bring warm clothing and non-slip footwear.
If you would like to visit Areni-1 Cave or add other stops along the route, please mention this when booking so that we can calculate the duration and final price in advance.
