How to Get from Yerevan to Jermuk

Jermuk is a famous spa resort in Armenia’s Vayots Dzor region, located at an altitude of 2,080 m. Visitors come here for its mineral springs, sanatoriums, mountain air, and the Jermuk waterfall. The distance from Yerevan is about 170 km, and there are several ways to get there.

Bus and Minibus

A direct minibus No. 557 runs from Yerevan’s central Kilikia bus station to Jermuk. Departures are available several times a day, and the fare is around 2,000 AMD. Travel time is about 3.5–4 hours.

The downsides are an inconvenient schedule, a cramped cabin, limited comfort, and no stops on the way. There is also no direct bus from the airport to Jermuk — you first need to get to the bus station.

Regular Taxi

A taxi from Yerevan to Jermuk may cost around 24,000–30,000 AMD through an app or local driver. However, not every driver accepts such a long route, and there is no guarantee of a comfortable car with air conditioning or winter tires. There is usually no airport meet-and-greet, no child seat, and no planned sightseeing stops.

Private Transfer

SLS Armenian Tour offers a private door-to-door transfer: we pick you up from your hotel or apartment in Yerevan, or meet you at Zvartnots Airport with a name sign, and take you directly to your hotel, apartment, or health resort in Jermuk.

You get a fixed price, a comfortable vehicle, and an experienced driver. Stops along the route are possible — for example in Areni, at Noravank Monastery, or at scenic viewpoints. This is not just a ride, but a comfortable trip along one of the most beautiful roads in Armenia.

Route and Road from Yerevan to Jermuk

From Yerevan, the road goes south along the E117 highway. You pass through the Ararat Valley with views of Mount Ararat, then continue toward Yeghegnadzor. Nearby is the village of Areni, known for the world’s oldest winery and its modern vineyards, where you can stop for a wine tasting. A little further is the turn to Noravank Monastery, one of the most beautiful monasteries in Armenia.

After Yeghegnadzor, the road climbs into the mountains through the Arpa River gorge. The last 30–40 km are a mountain serpentine road, with elevation rising from around 1,000 m to 2,000 m. The scenery is impressive, but the road requires an experienced driver, especially in winter.

From Zvartnots Airport, the route is slightly longer — around 180–185 km and about 3–3.5 hours on the road. The driver meets you in the arrivals area and takes you directly to Jermuk without transfers.

In winter, the mountain section can be icy or snowy. All our vehicles are equipped with winter tires, and our drivers know this route well, which makes the trip safer than calling a random taxi for a long-distance ride.
